Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a man from back, sitting and holding a stick, rendered in fluid thick strokes of ink. In the background the sketch of partly visible rickshaw moving forward has been executed in thick curvilinear stokes, suggesting the modelling of the form, giving the sense of movement to the sketch.
