Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this pen and ink sketch, he has depicted a woman standing, rendered in fluid, fine strokes of ink. The folds on the saree have been swiftly executed in thick lines suggesting the modelling of the form.
