Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this pen and ink sketch, he has illustrated a scene at a platform of the Bakhtiyarpur railway station, in the state of Bihar. The frenzied activity of the passengers and porters, keenly observed by the artist, has been depicted in rigorous yet spontaneous strokes of the pen.
