    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 81 9081 Nandalal Bose Pen and ink on paper

×
In this sketch, Nandalal has depicted the head of a man from the back, executed with thick, bold strokes of ink. He has marked the shape of the head within a square, associating the two forms with each other. In his book, 'On Art' the artist writes of human anatomy, "In depicting normal human figures, proportions may vary owing to age and health, country and climate, racial stock and economic condition. But in spite of all such variations, all human figures are united in general structure, in forms and function of muscles and tendons, in shapes and characters of their various limbs."
