Nandalal had a firm belief that for the creation of art an intimate understanding of the nature is imperative. The above sketch is a study of a date palm by the artist as suggested in the inscription. This has been rendered with fluid, fine strokes of ink delineating the outlines and smudge strokes of colour pencil adding grace and vigour to the composition.
