Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has rendered a live portrait of Mr. Anish, as mentioned in the inscription. The fluid, rhythmic strokes of ink in calligraphic style adds depth and defines the facial feature of the face.
