Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted an old man carrying juice in a pot and also in a glass, probably for drinking, against the backdrop of a palm tree. This has been executed in fluid, thick strokes of ink delineating the form and smudge strokes of colour adding grace in the composition.
