Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a village woman draped in saree carrying pitcher over her head and walking along with a dog. This has been executed in fluid, bold lines delineating her posture and the smudged fluid strokes of colours in tonal variation adds grace to its form.
