Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a village woman draped in a saree and carrying pot over her head against the backdrop of a sunset. This has been executed in fluid, bold strokes of ink and dabs and dashes of colours accentuating her posture and adding grace to the composition.
