Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings and animals. In this postcard, he has depicted the sketch of chickens trapped in a cage, with fluid, fine strokes delineating the forms while soft strokes of colour pencil adds grace and vigour to the composition.
