Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a quick rendition of the herd of deer running amidst a serene landscape, executed in soft smudged strokes of pencil colour delineating the forms and adding grace in the composition.
