Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. This above sketch by him depicts a bullock cart loaded with heavy bulk of haystack, carried by two figures amidst a rural landscape. This has been executed in fluid, smudge strokes of colour pencil in tonal variation and bold strokes of ink defining the contours adding depth and grace to the composition.
