Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a mother walking with her four children and one of the child is resting in her arms rendered against the backdrop of trees and shrubs. This has been executed in fluid, confident strokes of ink delineating the form and soft smudged strokes of pencil colour in tonal variation adding grace and life to the sketch.
