Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings and animals. In the above sketch the artist has rendered a plant, executed with thick, fluid brush strokes filled with dabs and dashes of watercolour, articulating the contours of the plant and adding vigour to the composition.
