A Sketch from Album No. 84 9155 Nandalal Bose Pen & Ink on postcard

×
Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. The process enabled him to experiment with newer techniques, explore new mediums and evolve new art practices without being conformed to a particular style. The sketch is dated 1955, when the artist was working in the Sumi-e Japanese technique with almost minimalistic and abstract renderation of the subjects. Even through this artistic phase Nandalal continued to making sketches with pen and ink of flora and fauna. The above sketch is of the flower of potato plant as mentioned in the inscription in the sketch.
