Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a fruit seller walking on a street and reciting the names of the fruits. The artist has rendered the subject in fluid, thick strokes of ink, adding vigour and vivacity to the sketch.
