Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In the above sketch the artist has depicted a portrait of a woman in profile, delineated with dark, linear ink strokes articulating the contours of her face and her stylised coiffure with dabs and dashes of black colour. With a few brush strokes Nandalal has elicited simplicity of the woman in the composition.
