Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscape, figure drawings and animals. In this postcard, he has depicted a sketch of two fishes, executed in fluid, thick strokes of ink. He has captured the details in soft, fine strokes, emphasizing on its structure. He has also mentioned the sizes and colors of their different parts as suggested in the inscription.
