Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a man walking in the rain carrying a stick and his belongings and covered with a bamboo mat. The sketch has been executed with short, quick strokes that suggest the modelling of the body and convey the hurried movement of the subject. The brisk, downward strokes, accentuate the rhythm and movement of the rain.
