    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 97 9488 Nandalal Bose Pen and ink on paper

×
Nandalal had some knowledge of pre-modern Indian painting styles early in his career and with the passage of time, he began to more intensively acquaint himself with its achievements. In this sketch, as the inscription suggests, he has reproduced an ornamental rendition of a deer, designed with multiple bodies converging at a single head, from a sculpture at the Ajanta caves.
