    Nandalal Bose

A Sketch from Album No. 98 9522 Nandalal Bose Pen and ink on paper

×
Nandalal had some knowledge of pre-modern Indian painting styles early in his career and with the passage of time, he began to more intensively acquaint himself with its achievements. He studied it deeply and even assisted Ananda Coomaraswamy in preparing a catalogue of Abanindranath Tagore's collection of Mughal and Rajput paintings. In this sketch, as the inscription suggests, he has reproduced the form of the leaping antelope from these miniature paintings by studying the works of old masters.
