This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'Deers' executed from his memory and experiences. The painting depicts a beautiful composition having several deer running towards the left of the painting, against the backdrop of a setting sun. There is a temple at the far end of the painting. Nandalal has used a variety of brush strokes and tonal variation; dark patches for bushes and fluid translucent strokes to emphasize the momentum of the running deer. This painting was purchased from collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose.
