×
This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'Deers' executed from his memory and experiences. The collection of his works in NGMA has several of these paintings, where the artist has portrayed the untamed and solitary nature of wild animals, often in a setting that includes a seascape. Nandalal captured the undulating waves in varying tones of only black colour with an admirable ease. This painting was purchased from collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose.
