This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'Elephants' executed from his memory and experiences. The composition is stripped to the bare minimum where only a few strokes of paint are employed to create the natural form of the elephant in an effortless approach. This painting was purchased from the collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose.
