This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'Wild Animals' executed from his memory and experiences. This painting is one of the few of this series of 'Wild Animals' where Nandalal has used colour unlike other compositions which are executed monochromatically. The painting here depicts an animal figure surrounded by a cluster of trees. The use of colour is minimal yet playful. This painting was purchased from collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose.
