This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'Wild Animals' executed from his memory and experiences. The collection of his works in NGMA has several of these paintings, where the artist has portrayed the untamed and solitary nature of wild animals by means of his tactful brush strokes. The painting depicts two animals figures on a hilly terrain. Nandalal accentuates the curves of the hills by using different tonal variations of only black colour. This painting was purchased from collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose.
