Watercolour on paper
×
This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'Boats' executed from his memory and experiences. Nandalal has painted the composition in an effortless manner, using dabs and dashes of ink to create the natural form of the sea, and riders on the boats, with a range of strokes in tonal variations capturing the rhythm and pattern in the image. This painting was purchased from the collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose, children of Nandalal Bose.
