This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'Clouds/ Winds' executed from his memory and experiences. This painting is one of the few of this series where Nandalal has used colour unlike other compositions which are executed in monochrome. The painting here depicts a clouded sky, rendered in soft curled brush strokes juxtaposed with straight, angled dashes of the winds. The use of colour is minimal yet playful. This painting was purchased from the collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose.
