This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'Hills and Houses' executed from his memory and experiences. Nandalal here depicts three houses on the top of the hill, effortlessly rendered with a few strokes of ink with mere dabs and dashes of colour. This painting was purchased from the collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose, children of Nandalal Bose.
