This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'Mountains' executed from his memory and experiences. Rhythm and pattern became increasingly important in Nandalal's work, the above painting depicts three mountains standing in successive heights so that each of their peeks are visible. This painting was purchased from the collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose, children of Nandalal Bose.
