This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being the 'Mountains' executed from his memory and experiences. The collection of his works in the NGMA has several of these paintings, where he depicts solitary mountains against a skyline in the background or a few brush strokes depicting birds. This painting was purchased from the collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose, children of Nandalal Bose.
