    Nandalal Bose

Two ladies 6982 Nandalal Bose Watercolour on paper

×
This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. These compositions were stripped to the bare minimum where only a few strokes of ink were employed to create natural forms in an effortless approach. Nandalal was keen to capture the rhythm and pattern in the varied images of nature. The above painting depicts two women walking across a landscape as they carry offerings, perhaps on their way to the temple.
