Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subjects being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings and animals. In the above painting the artist has executed the portrait of a woman with dabs and dashes of watercolour highlighting the contours and her facial features. The loose brush strokes bring out the form and add life to the composition.
