Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subjects being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings and animals. In the above painting the artist has rendered a dog as she suckles two human babies, with dabs and dashes of watercolour delineating the figures and depicting the unusual activity in the composition. The quick strokes convey the keen observation of his surroundings by the artist.
