Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subjects being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings and animals. In the above painting the artist has depicted two birds perched on the branch of a tree. The delicate forms are rendered with dabs and dashes of watercolour articulating the contours and highlighting the feathers. The fluid strokes add vigour and dynamism to the composition.
