Nandalal in his artistic career sketched fervently with either pen or brush, subjects ranging from mythic and religious themes to nature and social realities. The above painting by the artist depicts a European royal lady assisted by her handmaidens at her toilet. The composition is rendered with soft, fluid brush strokes articulating the contours, filled with dabs and dashes of colour to bring about a corporeality of form and substance.
