Nandalal had firm belief that for the creation of art an intimate understanding of nature and its ways is imperative. In this sketch, he has depicted a tree laden with leaves and flowers which are falling on the ground. This illustration has been rendered against a serene landscape, with a range of fluid, rhythmic lines of pen and ink that lend tonal variation and brings out its true form. He has also depicted a mother and a child standing in the background executed in quick, loose strokes, defining the contours of the forms.
