Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a village woman lifting a paddy stalks and walking across a field, executed in fluid, thick strokes of ink, delineating the form of the figure. The background is marked with loose, short strokes resulting in a quick rendition of the grass.
