Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a man picking up dirt from the floor with a broom. This has been executed the sketch in fluid, rhythmic lines of pen and ink, delineating the contours of the figure. In the background the similar figure is been rendered with thick, bold strokes, suggesting the basic form of the subject.
