Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a snake charmer playing an instrument in front of two snakes. This has been executed in fluid, bold strokes of ink, suggesting the modelling of the forms and capturing the movement between the snake and the man in the composition.
