Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a scene of a village, where a man is seen selling rice on a bullock cart, as mentioned in the inscription and another man is standing under a tree. The subjects has been executed in fluid, fine lines of pen, resulting in a realistic representation of a scene. He has rendered a tree in various fluid linear strokes, adding texture to its form.
