Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a man carrying a basket on his head and holding a rake, passing by a tree. This has been executed in fluid, bold lines of ink, delineating the contour of the form, adding life and grace to the composition.
