Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings, animals. In this series of pen and ink sketches, he has closely observed and documented a variety of flora common to the Bengal region. This particular sketch by him depicts a flower with its stem and leaves in fine, calligraphic strokes that bring out the details of the form in a delicate manner.
