Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings, animals. In this postcard, he has depicted the Ashok flower in a palm leaf plate, as mentioned in the inscription. Also the detail sketch of the flower has been rendered along with the container. This has been executed in fluid yet firm, fine strokes of ink that bring out the details of the form in a delicate manner.
