Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a Santhal girl climbed on a tree and plucking flower from its branch. This has been executed in fluid yet firm, bold strokes of ink, delineating the contours of the figure and accentuating her posture.
