In this pen and ink sketch, Nandalal has illustrated the conditions of a poor farmer. As the inscription suggests, he has depicted the dilapidated house and the emaciated animals to convey the hardships of rural poverty. The figure of the farmer, standing forlorn and helpless, is especially poignant.
