Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a man sitting with a loom, beside a huge trunk of a tree amidst a landscape. This has been executed with various, rhythmic strokes of ink in calligraphic style delineating the forms and adding grace in the composition.
