Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings and animals. In this postcard, he has depicted a detail sketch of a bird probably a crane, is stretching her wings to fly. This has been executed in fluid, bold lines that delineate the contour of the form and creating the sense of movement in the composition.
