Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a woman sitting and making rongoli for the festival of rain, as mentioned in the inscription. This has been executed in fluid, rhythmic strokes of ink in calligraphic style accentuating the posture of the figure.
