Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, Nandalal has rendered women carrying a child on her waist and a basket on her head in side-profile, swiftly executed in dark, coarse pencil strokes and the smudged pencil strokes highlights the facial features and demeanour of the subject.
